I made the "Kid-Friendly Comics" sign for this year's SPACE! Was thinking of a couple kids I know who enjoy reading while I was drawing. :)

HAPPY 2016!!!
HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! Thank you to everyone I have met and spoken to at conventions, online and other events in 2015 - here's to continuing in 2016! May it be full of creation and good discoveries.
A lot is coming up quickly... my husband Matthew Sparks will release two independent comics in the first half of the year, and hopefully in the next couple months we will be moving to a new home that better serves our love of creating comics and illustrations. It's going to be... INTERESTING, if nothing else. HERE WE GOOOOO ~
Every nice elf should have a nice squirrel pet, I think. :D (created in Manga Studio and Photoshop)

Gorgeous, Perfect Ella
I didn't get her face *quite* right, but I think it's still pretty obvious who this is. :)
Brush pen and graphite.
My husband said I'm not allowed to have a crush on her because "that would be weird". So I supposed it'll have to be a secret crush (add her to my list of dead people I have crushes on). Because seriously... Ella Fitzgerald is just beautiful. She's the original Queen.

Goodbye American Elf
Sigh. Today's "Fanart Friday" isn't altogether cheerful - more bittersweet. American Elf has been a part of my comics-reading life for 5 or 6 years now, and a great inspiration. James Kochalka, if you happen to come around, Here's a message for you:
For fun, here's the sketch of James (also on Instagram):
Fun fact - the funky circle was made by drawing around a funny bowl I got for 50 cents at a thrift shop. Useful thing.

Adventure Time
Graph paper Adventure Time doodles!! Marceline, Princess Bubblegum and Finn. (And some acorns. Acorns are ADORABLE!!) Was fun ti figure out some hairstyles that would be possible with sticky gum. Drawn with ballpoint pen.
Drawing this way reminds me a little of this older project. :)

Dr. Sketchy's Drink n' Draw was this week! my first time going. Twas fun; wished I didn't have to leave early for work the next day. Next week is "Cincinnati Pilseners and Pencils"; will hopefully be fun also. Here's my favorite sketches of our sexy astronaut:
And here are a few logo design ideas and post-it sketches for some other projects. :D

ARM
Animation is in full swing for The Story Ship! on a break, I felt like drawing an arm. so here you get a Blanche doodle. GOODBYE!
I looked up a little bit of Jazz Maynard earlier today (though not much) so that was the beginnings of inspiration for this cel-shaded monochrome goodness.

I get the weirdest draw-cravings sometimes...
By the bye, I've been listening to the SEQAlab Podcast while doing cleanup animation - it's really entertaining and informative. They won't be recording new shows until fall quarter so I've actually been re-listening to some of my favorite shows, and re-listening is good because I'm exquisitely talented at forgetting things. And it's also where I heard about Jazz Maynard. YAY!
